The aim of physiotherapy is to not only treat the issue you have presented with, but to give you the advice and confidence to move forward for the long term and make your body as robust as possible in order to reduce your risk of future issues and keep you doing the things you love.

What to expect on your first visit…

Clinical Consultation:

This will be a up to a 1 hour appointment where Physio Rachael will talk to you about your symptoms and why impact they are having on your health and wellbeing, as well as ask you about your past medical history.

She will ask about what your life involves in terms of work and hobbies to understand what is meaningful to you and what you want to get back to being able to do.

Physical Examination:

Rachael will look at how you move and your strength, and perform any relevant special tests to understand what is causing you pain and discomfort.

Please wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move.  Shorts are advisable for lower limb issues, and a vest top is useful for shoulders and necks.

There may be times where you will need to undress down to underwear but Rachael will always ensure your feel comfortable to do so.

Report of Findings:

Rachael will explain the assessment findings to you and provide you with a working diagnosis.  She will then explain how best to move forward with a clinically reasoned treatment plan and is happy to answer any questions you may have.

Sometimes it is advisable to refer on for further investigation from either your GP or a specialist consultant and Rachael will always explain this situation to you.

With any further available time, if either hands on treatment or exercise is appropriate, Rachael will start this process with you.  It is highly likely that you will have exercises to go home with which will help you continue your recovery outside of the clinic.

Care and Rehabilitation:

Often a number of hands on sessions are required to begin appropriate management of your issue as well as ensure you are prescribed the right exercises for you and are managing them well at home.

Once your symptoms have improved then sessions may have more time between them to allow time for strength gains to occur with your exercises before progressions are implemented.  All ongoing treatment planing will be discussed with you to ensure you are happy moving forward.
